Thing # 23
When i first began i was bemused by the new world i had entered and despaired that i would ever 'get the hang' of it. Some things are still a bit harder and i doubt i will use them again while others are great...image generators, RSS feeds, del.icio.us, YouTube...fantastic. I can see the value of Flickr but i won't be using it. Wikis are goood too, Wikipedia forever!
As for assisting my learning goals, i feel that this has improved and excited my learning goals. I hope they can asist me in my continuing course work for my Lib Tech certificate.
I'm sick of opening this account and that account...
I have gained confidence in using these tools.

A funny thing happened in the library the other day. A patron came up to the desk to tell me had tried to place a hold on a book on iBistro but it was only showing an MP3 copy. What did that mean? I explained what it meant and he was none too happy...he wanted the book and didn't have an MP3 player!! What was he to do? Well it turned out we did have a book copy and so i duly placed the hold. He was happy.
I think the World EBook Fair site was very comprehensive. I liked how there were many works that could possible help if you were at high school or Uni (Dante's 'Divine Comedy' and lots of Shakespeare). Hard to read but easy to listen too, possibly?
The site was easy to navigate.

I tried all the recommended podcast sites: Podcast.net Podcastalley.com and Yahoo but i couldn't find anything that interested me. Also, a lot of the podcast were more than 15mins...well this could probably be double that time with the way they freeze then resume then freeze again. When i conducted a search of a few things on the Yahoo site i kept getting the message 'this link is not authorised by Yahoo!'. I may come back to this but i would rather read a transcript on the'net, i think. Not recommended.
Do i think this could be utilised in the library scenario? Possibly if there were good book reviews or short examples of tlk books advertised (MAtthew Reilly, Area 7 was a good teaser).

Okay...If they can't eat cake then let them eat....ear wax!! Oops i talked a bit about YouTube in thing # 19 not realising it was thing # 20. I'm happy that i got this onto my blog. I can't believe how far i've come since thing #1!! Enjoy...or not!
Seriously though, how frustrating is YouTube to watch. Is it just my computer (i don't belive so) but all the stopping & starting and squeaky voices.

Thing # 19
Well, there is a lot of stuff out there. I was really interested in something called myfamily.com. This sounded like just what i could use...keeping in touch with family members, posting pictures, putting in reminders about birthday etc. Unfortunately it only had a free 30 day trial then you had to pay an annual subscription fee.
I guess i keep coming back to YouTube. I like to go on and see the political speeches...mainly American stuff but thats ok. It's interesting to see what issues are big and being talked about. I even saw Kirk Douglas on there!!!
My favourite things to use are YouTube and the great del.icio.us

Today i used Zoho Writer to write a short message and imported a picture of the Cats from the internet. I then posted it onto my Blog and it all worked successfully. It was very easy to use and publish and import a picture. I could see my son using this application at home for school stuff.

Today i am having a whirl at Zoho Writer. I hope it is easy to use as the Word i have been using recently isn't user friendly. Will try to put this on my Blog...
By the way...is anyone out there a Cats fan. Roll-on season 2008 and the mighty Catters!!!

Well i added my blog to the PBwikiLearning2.o. I added my favourite TV show, holiday destination and restaurant to the blog. Is this 'having some fun & a play?' Anyone watch Extras?? Are 'you havin a lauff?' That's all folks.

I am already a convert to Wikipedia (want a synopsis of 'The Merchant of Venice' ?...go to Wikipedia!!). Having said that, i am always aware that there could be mistakes in the content.
One benefit of Wikis is that they are easy to use and no need to worry if you cant use HTML. I could see great use for it in the library environment...As i said, i already use Wikipedia. Who want to know Sit Arthur Conan Doyle's books and the order he wrote them?? I don't but one of my library patrons did. Wikipedia was great. Why not use the catalogue you ask? Well, less said about that the better. Imagine if we could put that sort of info on our library Wiki. Gradually add authors, theier books, personal info about them, their other pseudonyms, major characters...the list goes on.
The library Wikis content could have its content added to by the library users and eventually just be moderated by the lib techs/librarians.

Firstly, i am going to try & find out what the Cluetrain Manifesto is secondly i will need to learn more about OCLC (online computer library center).
Library 2.0 is the future...but i agree with Rick Anderson. 'Libraries are poorly equipped & insufficiently staffed for teaching'. We are trying to direct our patrons (i hate the word 'users') towards the internet/home page/databases/my account but it is a slow process. Even when we offered classes to teach iBistro they were poorly attended. I couldn't begin to calculate the staff:patron ratio. How do we introduce & teach this technology to patrons? I believe that the upcoming generations will already have a handle on all this technology. Technorati has recorded more than 50 millions blogs since July 31 2006!! A lot of people already have a handle on it.
23 Things has been a great experience & i will continue to use some of the features...
In order to make Library 2.0 more user-centric for staff future directions need to be for more staff traing.

After having fun with del.icio.us Technorati was pretty boring. Using the search term Learning 2.0 in blog posts (6711) & tags (840) brought up different results. What's with the 'authority' thing? May have to come back & do a bit more research. Using a 'l' compared to a 'L' in Learning also created a different set of numbers. hmmmmm!!

I got the buttons onto my browser and have added some stuff. This is great. Great when you go on holidays or when i use the computer at work...no more having to write down websites in my diary to remember. I think this is an excellent tool & i am going to transfer all my 'favorites' to it.

Today i created my del.icio.us acc. I think this could be a nifty trick. My favourites are always bursting & i like the idea of being able to use this tool whatever computer i may be on. I guess i need to get on the web and start bookmarking some pages to add to my account. I created an account but couldn't add buttons to my toolbar. I will go back and try again.

Created a Rollyo acc & placed my searchroll on my blog. It was interesting searching out interesting site to add. I haven't completely searched all the sites i have added but of course i can edit them. I'm glad i managed to add the searchroll to my blog...all 'under one roof' so to speak.

I have got the hang of RSS feeds. Unfortunately, feedster & technorati would not work on my piece of crap computer...freezing all the time. So, i Googled my feeds by just adding RSS to the end of the search term...works for me & Mr. Crap DELL!!
I also found a clever freddy who has a library blog with a RSS feed...too bad he's American.
http://www.bloglines.com/myblogs_display?sub=59922882&site=5494948
I have decided that this is a pretty nifty resource, actually. My boring feeds are news & weather. In spite i have added a scrapbooking feed as i loathe it so much. A bit of self flagellation never hurt anyone did it? ( unless its the guy from Da Vinci Code)
Okay so maybe this is ok technology

# 5 Cont'd
Tonight i had a play with adding another picture...not via Flickr. Can't be bothered yet to set up another account with login & passwords.
I love Frank Lloyd Wright's architecture, especially Fallingwater, so i have added it to my blog. I managed to drag it to below Wilfred (wouldn't want to upset him). I worked out to how to do it after an interminable amount of time!!! I'm sure i should be on interent banking paying bills.

#5 FLICKR
Today i 'endured' Flickr. I was incredibly lucky to have some great help from Lynn & Kathy...THANKYOU!!
Do i like Flickr? Not especially, but hopefully with some more practice i will soon get the hang of it. 'Wilfred' is a little obsure but i was lucky to find a picture of him and so i am pleased with todays progress.
It's a little bit later in the day & i have decided to have a play with editing this post...seems to be ok.

Blog created amongst the mayhem of post dinner clean-up and pre bed ritual for kids...probably not the most appropriate time to set up my blog.
